In 2003, audiences around the world were introduced to a new kind of Christmas film in Terry Zwigoff’s Bad Santa, a holiday film you wouldn’t want to watch with the whole family but an often hilarious comedy that gave Billy Bob Thornton one of the roles of his career.

Fast forward to 2016 in a few weeks time, and we will get to witness the next adventures of unhappy alcoholic Santa Willie, his criminal offsider Marcus, his newly introduced mother Sunny Soke (played by Kathy Bates) and of course everyone’s favorite Xmas loving Thurman Merman, this time directed by Mean Girl’s helmer Mark Waters.

Fuelled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie teams up once again with his angry little sidekick, Marcus, to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is ‘the kid’ – chubby and cheery Thurman Merman, a 250-pound ray of sunshine who brings out Willie’s sliver of humanity. Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Willie’s horror story of a mother, Sunny Soke.

Bad Santa 2 opens in Australian cinemas Thursday November 24th

  1. Bad santa is like a movie we would of made at school. Sick, twisted, deranged and at times abusive, what more could a young rebel want from a christmas movie?

  2. My favourite Christmas film for SURE is the Muppets Christmas Carole it’s such an age old classic tale but so much more funny and warm but doesn’t loose the initial moral message. I love the songs so much and when I watch it I just know it’s Christmas!!! 😀 ❤ Xx

  3. My favourite Christmas film is: ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, because it reminds you about the Christmas spirit and reignites the flame that is life. Showing that your circumstance depends on your attitude. Bad Santa does the same! Haha

  4. Elf with sophisticated glee, an innocent sense of fun and refreshing in its lack of cynicism, a certified Christmas family classic in our house!

  5. As cliché as it may sound but Bad Santa is 100% my all time fav Christmas movie… where he says to Willy he’ll go to Mexico and open his own bar… trashes the other guys bar and checks out chicks butts… KILLS IT!!!

  6. It’s A Wonderful Life, an enduring film and testament to everything Christmas embodies, family friends and the joy of life. I watch it most years and can’t wait to see it this year in The Astor on Christmas Eve.

  7. Miracle on 34th Street, 65 years later and this pitch perfect movie that captures the spirit of human generosity has my kids cackling with glee

  8. The Bishop’s Wife, a Christmas without Cary Grant would be sacrilege not to mention it has the all time best Christmas tree decorating scene

  9. I like my Christmases dark and scary so it’s gotta be Black Christmas, the original slasher with the most super creepy maniacal telephone voice you’ll ever here, makes you terrified to pick up the phone
